Corsicana Beats Waco U. 30-25

The Tigers improved their record to 5-0 on the season with a 30-25 victory over the Waco University Trojans on Friday night.  For the second straight week the Tigers came out on top of an exciting contest with another top 4A team.

University got on the scoreboard first behind the running of Eric Ransom who had a stellar evening running for 166 yards total, but the Trojans would have the extra point blocked by Thomas Reese.  The Tiger offense would respond on the next series.  Jonte Manning had the first great kickoff return of the night to set the Tigers up in Trojan territory.  Clarence Robinson would put the Tigers on top with a touchdown carry.

The Tigers would add another touchdown when Tyjuan Manning caught a pass from Daniel Orr and Matt Pratt would kick a field goal to give the Tigers a 17-6 lead in the second quarter.  The Tigers would drive again late in the second on the strength of Clarence Robinson but the drive would stall and the Trojans would get the ball on downs with just under two minutes to go in the half.  QB Rolando Locke would lead University down the field to get a field goal to make the score at halftime 17-9 Tigers.

For much of the third quarter neither team could get much going offensively.  Near the end of the quarter University would cut the lead to 17-12 on a field goal going into the fourth, but the Tigers would again respond when Orr hit Manning for his second touchdown of the night.  Not to be outdone the Trojans would pull with 6 at 24-18 when Locke hit Stanley Willis for a touchdown.  On the ensuing kickoff though, Jonte Manning would turn in a dazzling 90 yard return for a touchdown to put the Tigers up by 12, 30-18.

The Trojans weren't done though as Locke and Willis would move the ball quickly down to the Tiger 2 yard line and Ransom would punch it in to bring the score to 30-25.  The Tigers would recover the onside kick though, and run out the clock to seal the undefeated non-district mark.

In the Trojans final series, Corsicana LB Brandon Capehart went down with an injury and had to be helped off the field by the paramedics.  He did raise his fist as he was leaving the field though, and the initial reports were that the injury was not serious.
