Tigers Travel To Tomato Bowl

Tough schedules are the norm for the Tigers and this year isn't any different.  After 5A Bowie last week, the Tigers head to Jacksonville to play their old rival the Jacksonville Indians.

Jacksonville is one of the top teams in the state this year having a talented experienced bunch that last week beat a highly regarded Sulphur Springs team 20-12.  Head Coach Randy Copeland is in his second year and although he got off to a slow start (0-5 in non-district last year) since then he has won 6 of 7.

Tiger fans that watched last year's game should be familiar with some of the names they'll see on Friday with all of the returning starters.  QB Trevalyn Canady was a tremendous threat last year running and throwing and after a year in Coach Copeland's system he should be even more dangerous especially with top WR targets like Aaron Whitaker.  The Tiger defense will have to be up to the task in order to pull out a victory.  One of the keys will be containing Canady who is a very quick runner.  The Tiger D should be ready for that aspect of Canady's game since they just got finished playing one of the top running QB prospects in the country last week.

When the Tigers have the ball the Tiger O-line will have to contain the Indians star lineman Gerald Singleton.  The Indians always have great secondary play and this year should be no different led by Lance Wallace.  The Tigers dynamic duo of Eric Gordon and Jon Bauer will have to expand to include some of the other talents on the team in order to break through the Jacksonville defense.  One of the things that will be interesting to watch is if the Tiger running game can get untracked.  Last week Gordon provided most of the Tigers net rushing yards.

The Corsicana-Jacksonville rivalry has produced some great games over the past few years, and with an experienced team and a great coaching staff, Jacksonville looks poised to give the Tigers another great test early this season.  Come out and support the Tigers!!!
