Tigers Dominate in Lancaster

Friday night the Tigers played in what many 'experts' were saying was a dangerous matchup and had many (re:  Ennis fans) around the internet picking Lancaster to win the game.  Instead the Tigers dominated the game winning 35-16 in a game that was truly not as close as the 19 point margin.

Both teams were held scoreless in the first quarter but in the second quarter the Tiger offense exploded as it has so many times this year putting up 28 points to take a 28-14 lead.  Despite being double covered the entire game Jon Bauer opened the scoring with a 56 yard TD catch that opened the floodgates.  QB Eric Gordon would follow with a 1 yard touchdown run after another Bauer catch.  Lancaster would get on the board after an outstanding catch by Keegan Reese but Corsicana would respond with a Brannon Watson touchdown interception.  Bauer would get his second score on the night on a 76 yard touchdown catch which gave the Tigers a 28-7 lead.  It seemed that would be the halftime score after the Tiger D held Lancaster to a punt, but during the punt the ball appeared to deflect off of a Tiger foot and Lancaster recovered on the 1 yard line and Terry Sampson scored his only touchdown of the night thereafter.

In the second half the defenses tightened up with the only scoring in the third quarter coming when the snap sailed over punter Gordon's head for a safety.  In the fourth quarter the Tigers ran the clock down using mostly running plays with Jay Finley and Ray Sims but the Tigers final score was actually set up when Gordon hit Kendall Gooden for 30 yards.  Finley would take it in from there to finish out the scoring.

The Tiger defense was amazing in this game as outside of the one drive for Lancaster they stifled the district's leading rusher Sampson.  They only allowed 188 yards of total offense to a team that had rolled up over 500 the week before.

Next week Ennis comes to town, we'll have the regular updates up later...
