Tigers Win District Title Over Ennis

Friday night's game against Ennis was a classic.  The Tigers rallied in the fourth quarter to win a tight game 30-26.  The Tigers built a lot of momentum going into next week's playoff game against Seagoville.  That game will be at 7:30 at Lion Memorial Stadium in Ennis on Thursday night.

The Tigers opened the scoring in the game with QB Eric Gordon hitting Keith Leerskov for the score.  The Lions would respond though and tie the game at 7.  The Tigers would then go on another scoring drive that was culminated with a brilliant catch by Jon Bauer who then broke two tackles to get into the end zone to put the Tigers on top by 7.  On the Lions next possession the Tigers got an interception and looked like they had momentum firmly on their side but Gordon got heavy pressure and threw an interception to Lion DT Greg Jones who returned it for a touchdown to tie the game back up at 14.

The Tigers would continue to struggle for much of the second quarter as they allowed a Lion field goal and a safety to trail 19-14 before Kris Perez booted a late field goal of his own to make the halftime score 19-17 in favor of the Lions.

In the third quarter the Lions would extend their lead when Jake Brown hit Andrew Novak for a 46 yard touchdown pass.  The Tiger offense was unable to take advantage of a couple of turnovers and just couldn't get anything going at all in the third period of play and trailed by 9 going into the fourth quarter.

The fourth was dominated by the Tigers though.  On a drive where Jon Bauer seemingly willed the team down the field Eric Gordon finished it off with a three yard touchdown run to cut the lead to 2 at 26-24.  A Tiger interception gave the Tigers a world of confidence but the offense couldn't muster any yards and Perez missed a long field goal attempt.  Ultimately the Tiger D held fast all period long and forced the Lions to punt and Jon Bauer fielded the punt at around his own 30 yard line and returned it to the Lion 30 to set up the Tigers in great field position.  Coach Henigan turned to the defensive side to give a spark and safety Ray Sims came in and ran the ball on three straight plays with the final one being a 26 yard touchdown that put the Tigers on top.

The Lions would drive to the Tiger 23 in the final two minutes of play but four straight incompletions ended their chances and gave the Tigers the victory.  It was a great game all around.  Jon Bauer, the Tiger offensive line, the wide receivers, Gordon, Finley all had terrific games to put up 30 points on one of the best defenses in 4A.  The Tiger defense was outstanding as they held Ennis to it's lowest yardage total of the year.  A great game to build on for a playoff run.
