Tigers Too Much For Athens

Corsicana blitzed Athens for touchdowns on their first six possessions and added a safety all in the first half to dominate the first district contest 44-0.  Coach Henigan's Tigers scored on their first six possessions and also forced a safety all in the first half to cruise to a district opening victory.

WR Jon Bauer scored the first three touchdowns of the game and scored four overall as the Tiger offense made it look easy Friday night.  RB Jay Finley had 131 yards on only 5 carries including an 85 yard touchdown run.  Kendall Gooden had the other score catching a 16 yard touchdown.  Defensive lineman Cornelius Hawkins tackled Kantrail Carter in the end zone for the safety to round out the scoring.

QB Keith Leerskov was very sharp only misfiring on one pass attempt out of eleven.  The Tiger OL was a major force as they blew open holes for the running game and gave Leerskov plenty of time to find open targets.  The WR corps also came up huge as starters Bauer, Gooden, Rian Stubbs and Brannon Watson all had big catches.

On defense, dominating is almost not strong enough for the effort turned in by the Tiger D.  In the first half Athens 'gained' -13 yards and for the game only managed 40 yards and 2 first downs as the Tiger D registered it's first shutout of the season.  The Tiger D seems to be getting better each week and is starting to emerge as a dominating force.
